Investigation: Cries for Help
This is one part of an investigation which spanned 16 months. The series received multiple national honors, including a National Headliner Award, IRE Medal and Casey Medal. Angie uncovered abuse and multiple deaths in foster homes in the Indiana child welfare system. Her reports showed how the state failed to protect these children in their care. This determined reporting required a battle over public records which Angie and her team ultimately won. As a result of the series, the state passed a law requiring background checks for foster parents and making prior death records of children in foster care public. The Child Protective Services agency was also restructured after this powerful series of reports.
